Real estate developer Federal Land Inc. has sent the invitation out to architectural students, young practitioners, and design enthusiasts to an educational virtual design forum featuring Tange Associates Chairman Paul Noritaka Tange, son of iconic Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. Entitled “Japanese Architecture: The Synergy of Culture and Design,” his talk will focus on the significance of culture and environment in designing for the future whilst challenging the boundaries of design. With more than 400 projects in over 35 countries, Tange brings his expert and global perspective to this event, a special and inspiring opportunity for knowledge enhancement and creative enrichment.
Paul Noritaka Tange is the current Chairman and Principal Architect of the multi-awarded Tokyo-based Japanese architectural firm, Tange Associates. Founded by his father, Kenzo Tange—a 1987 Pritzker Laureate—Tange Associates is known for combining traditional Japanese artistry with modern perspectives. Their notable projects include Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Yoyogi Gymnasium, and The Grand Midori at Makati and Ortigas. Both Kenzo and Paul Tange also designed venues of Tokyo Olympics’ swimming and diving events—they did so half a century apart. The former completed the Yoyogi National Stadium in 1964 while the latter designed the Tokyo Aquatics Centre for the recently held 2020 games.
To be held on September 7, 2021, “Japanese Architecture: The Synergy of Culture and Design” will highlight Paul Noritaka Tange’s thoughts on transforming the landscape of Asia and the world through design and architecture. He will also share about his vision of incorporating Japanese culture and local sensibilities into global design, which ultimately upholds the iconic standards set by his father and the creation of timeless structures that are fit for today’s modern lifestyle and beyond.
The event will also be joined by Filipino designers and architects who will give a local perspective on the discussion and share insights on Philippine architecture and design. The roster includes DEQA Design Collaborative Principal Architect, Denise de Castro; Buensalido + Architects Principal Architect and Chief Design Ambassador, Jason Buensalido; and GF & Partners Architects Representative, Senior Associate and Project-in-charge for The Grand Midori Ortigas Arch. Angela Q. Mesina.
